About

Trigger Appy is rooted in C.G. Jung’s psychology of the Shadow. The shadow is usually the place where a person’s least desirable qualities remain hidden throughout their life. However, in most people, there is an element of the shadow that is desirable but is repressed by unconscious fears.

Fears can be rational. For example, we all fear certain situations because they pose a danger to our selves. This is normal and, in fact, desirable. People should not enter situation they deem to be dangerous.

However, it arises in most people through their culture, education, and upbringing that they have many fears that are not based in reality. That is, the fears are irrational. These fears, in turn lead to a repression of behaviors that otherwise would actually be desirable.

There are also a set of fears that have arisen through our evolution from animals. Although these fears may once have proven useful for our survival, it is possible that they are no longer useful. They are in fact a hindrance to normal behavior.

The result of these fears is the repression of behaviors that we feel would lead to the realization of these fears. So, what happens? Well, other people may no longer have these fears either because they were raised in a different manner, or in a different culture, or because they have “conquered” these fears. They may also simply not associate the behavior with any repressed fear. Everybody is different.

When you witness such behaviors, because you have repressed the behavior, and because you associate it with an unconscious fear, you are triggered and become angry at the person that displays the behaviors. However, the anger is incorrectly pointed at that person. If you recognize this anger, then you have an opportunity to discover what your irrational fears are. That discovery is in itself the main idea behind Trigger Appy. In fact, once you have surfaced unconscious and irrational fears, you will immediately feel a sense of relief.

Moving on, Trigger Appy allows you pinpoint the behaviors that anger you and turn them into something that you can now let into your life in a positive way. Because that is why you are angry: you wish to behave this way, but have an irrational fear that prevents you from doing so.

So you can turn these behaviors into a positive and then keep track of how you are improving your life by letting them back in.

The process used by Trigger Appy is modified from the one adapted by Lira Kay from C.G. Jung’s shadow work.
